A MINIMALIST’S GUIDE to LIVING a MINDFUL LIFE
  • 11/01

Everyone and their mother, yes, including me, seems to be embracing the spirit of Christmas, even though we've barely left October behind. I don't know why or how; perhaps that's a topic for researchers and psychologists. Maybe (more like definitely) there's an underlying reason behind our yearning for a more 'joyful' time, but I'm here for it.

I've already indulged in a bit of Christmas shopping myself. After at least 8 years of getting a real tree in the tropics every year, I finally caved in and got myself a faux tree (which sounds better than 'fake,' for sure) for sustainability reasons. Also, well, it's 2023, you know?

I've also spent hours swooning over glass baubles and dreaming of a country Christmas, just like in the pictures above, with a Dutch baby pancake baking in the oven, and more. The anticipation and excitement are real and hard to resist, so have a merry holiday time, everyone.

I've gotta admit, living in a two-season country can still feel pretty surreal to me. The shift from those scorching hot summer months to a couple of rainy ones is like one wild rollercoaster ride that I've come to embrace. But my heart truly belongs to one season above all else – fall.

There's just something so captivating about this time, from the layering clothes to that unmistakable crispness in the air, the gorg transformation of leaves, and of course, those heartwarming, hearty meals. It's a season that speaks to my soul like no other. I find myself daydreaming often about living in a place where autumn is somewhere in the calendar.

However, here I am, residing in the tropics and please, don't get me wrong; I absolutely adore the sun and the beach, but deep down, I’m more of an autumn girly. So, what's a fall enthusiast like me to do?

Well, I've come up with my own little ways to get my fall fix. It's all about finding creative outlets to make autumn feel alive, even in the land of eternal summer. For instance, you might often spot me wearing my favorite coats to indoor events, just to relish the sensation of layers and warmth.

Another essential for me is giving my nails a seasonal makeover. Those deep burgundies, burnt oranges, and rich browns become my go-to nail colors during this time of the year. There's just something about painting my nails in these shades that brings me closer to the fall spirit.

To create that cozy fall ambiance, I'm not afraid to crank up the air conditioning and light some spiced-scented candles. Sometimes, I'll even prepare dishes that embody the essence of fall, like a hearty pumpkin soup or a classic apple pie. It's my way of embracing the season through taste and aroma but to all you lucky ones in regions where you can enjoy this season, I’m a little jell-y but mostly delighted for you!

So, as the leaves begin to change, and the pumpkin spice lattes make their triumphant return, I just wanted to wish you all a very happy fall! May your days be filled with crisp air, cozy meals and memorable times.
